Noes:
Variance to allow a sign with
changing lights to be located at
561 Main Street, Pleasanton, in a
C-C (Community Commercial) District.
Commissioner Hirst wished to know
what the staff report meant by their
department recommendation.
Secretary Castro clarified for the
Commission that although the sign
is aesthetically pleasing, it is
still not in character with what the
City would like to have in their
downtown area, particularly as
regards the flashing sign.
Mr. Art Papish of Cummings & Company
was present and indicated that the
sign company attempted and was
successful in significantly reducing
the size of the sign numbers to 12
inches high. No bulkiness is
apparent now as noted in relation to
the main building. The thickness
of the sign is 14 inches and it is
flat-faced, in addition to being a
replica of the two light poles in
front of City Hall.
A gentleman spoke in favor of the
request by Cummings & Company.
Apparently, he is a long-time
resident of Pleasanton and felt the
time and temperature sign would be
a real asset to the residents.
The Public Hearing was then closed.
-7-
