4y$~-3AlV j0~
CITY of PLEASANTON
~'i .
.~
~~° Planning Commission
+wr.o s
MINUTES ~OF REGULAR MEETING.
DCte : May 23, 1972
Time : 8:55 P.M.
PIOC@; Pleasanton Justice Court
The Chairman then spoke, indicating
that the only basic question remainin
is, does Pleasanton need a time and
temperature sign and can the citizens
benefit from it.
Commissioner Hirst indicated that
he had done a lot of soul-searching
and has come to the conclusion that
the City should not allow this sign
in the downtown area.
Commissioner Pons felt tha sign is
attractive and should be permitted.
Commissioner Wood complimented the
applicant on the attractiveness of
the sign, but did not feel that a
flashing sign is appropriate for the
downtown.
Commissioner Pereira felt that by
comparison, this second submittal is
overwhelmingly more attractive than
the first submittal, but does not
feel the City really needs the sign.
That particular intersection is
too busy to accommodate a flashing
sign and possibility of accidents, a:
well as making the lot quite clutter-
ed looking.
Mr. Papish clarified that the sign is
not a flashing one, but a changing
one. He would be willing to reduce
the number of changes per minute to
below the present two a minute.
Discussion followed.
Commissioner Pons then offered a
resolution to approve this applica-
tion with all the staff recommen-
dations. This resolution died for
lack of a second.
-8-
