°`' ""'°~ CIT'Y of PLEASANTON
Plonning Commission
MINUTES ~OF REGULAR MEETING.
~Ct• : July 11, 1973
Time x 9:0o P. M.
PIG C8Z Pleasanton Justice Court
Senior Planner Harris stated that if other
owners would want to enlarge their buildings,
it would increase the need for additional
parking.
Mr. Joseph Schwab, representing Terry Hufft,
owner of the Pleasanton Hotel, said that he
was appearing before the Commission not to
object to the proposed facility but to grant
the variance with the large number of parkinf
spaces which the development lacks. It was
his contention that an unfair advantage woulc
b'e given to this developer. He requested a
postponement.
Jo Betty Allen, Vice President of the Chamber
of Coranerce, spoke in favor of this applicati,
She stated that the Chamber is trying to
attract similar new businesses. In addition,
she thought that having a choice of restau-
rants would tend to draw more people to the
area; also, with the City's cooperation, this
is a good opportunity to get a parking area,
without cost to the City.
Mr. Victor Lund, Jr., spoke in support of
Ms. Allen's remarks and this a pplication.
Commissioner Pereira stated that there ~
appears to be some inequity when an applicanj
appears to be offering to pa ve what is
apparently City owned land, but he feels tha
City agencies and Chamber of Commerce and
others should get together to try to solve
the downtown parking problem. He also state
that even though he would like to submit
that the Commission continue this matter in
order to meet with the staff to try to work
something out, since this is City owned land
it would have to be something that would
appear equitable to the City. He thought
there might be interested citizens who would
want to work on the formation of a parking
district. Commissioner Pereira said he
ng
,on.

- 6-
