Jack Bras/Jerry Bindi - application for Motion: <br />DESIGN REVIEW design review approval fora proposed restau Seconded: <br />V-73-27 and Z-73-44, rant to be constructed at 348 St. Mary Stree ,Ayes: <br />Continued to August 8, ~ Pleasanton, and application fora variance ~ Noes: <br />1973 from Sec. 2-9.16, Article 16, Chapter 2, ;Absent: <br />; Title II of the Ordinance Code of the City o <br /> Pleasanton to allow the construction of a <br /> 4,400 sq.ft. restaurant with less than the <br /> required number of parking spaces at 348 St. <br /> Mary Street, Pleasanton. <br /> Senior Planner Harris said the staff had <br /> at first approved the plans for the proposed <br /> restaurant but, on second thought due to the <br /> lack of ample parking area owned by the <br /> developer, staff had decided that they could <br /> not recommend approval. Also, letters had <br /> been received from Mr. J. Armstrong, attorne <br /> on St. Mary Street, and from the owner of th ' <br /> Pleasanton Hotel objecting to the approval <br /> of the restaurant. <br /> The Public Hearing was opened. <br /> Mr. Jack Bras, architect, spoke. He stated <br /> that the staff refusal to accept the reduced <br /> number of parking spaces was a surprise to <br /> him, and asked permission to illustrate the ~ <br /> site plan and parking area on the blackboard. ) <br /> He said the City and school administration <br /> staffs will be vacating their present loca- <br /> tions when they build and move to the Civic <br /> Center site, leaving the parking lots behind <br /> these two buildings open to public use and <br /> readily accessible for customers cars behind <br /> the proposed restaurant. If this variance <br /> were granted, it would open up a downtown <br /> parking lot which is greatly needed by the <br /> Central Business District. The restaurant <br /> requires parking space for about 45 cars. <br /> Commissioner Wood asked Mr. Bras if he had <br /> talked with other owners adjacent the subject <br /> property. Mr. Bras indicated he had not, but. <br /> that he had heard other property owners thin <br />~ it would enhance their property values. ~ <br /> - S- <br />
