CITY of PLEASANTON
Plaruning Commission
MINtl~'~~ ~OF REGUi_AR MEE1'4N0.
pG~e 2 November 21, 1973
Time ~ 7:3o P.M.
PiGfipt Pleasanton Justice Court
city as a Scenic Highway. If they do
the program must be presented to the
state indicating the types of special
treatment that will take place, alon
with routes in order to accomplish
the program. The State will then
review the program and determine
whether it warrants granting it a
Scenic Highway status. If approved,
signs will be erected so designating.
The goal is to propose streets withi
a City which would have some type of
rural attractiveness or perhaps
there are cases of urban scenic
highways.
Pleasanton does not have any pro-
posals to the State, but Alameda
County has a Scenic Highways plan,
which this city has examined. They
have looked at Interstates 680 and
580 and at State Route 84.
The staff is proposing that 580 and
680 be designated as scenic highways.
They are prs~posing a program that
Foothill Road and Bernal Avenue for
its entire present length, a portion
of the future Del Valle Parkway, a
portion east of Main Street and
Vineyard Avenue along with State
Route 84 be designated as County
Scenic Routes. The General Plan
shows the area west of Foothill Road
as essentially open space for public
health and safety. Main Street coulc
possibly be an urban scenic route in
that if the plans for the Central
Business District Committee come to
fruition, it would qualify.
Mr. Harris closed his remarks by
stating that all developments, along
scenic routes would come under very

. r
-3-
