Mr. Pear- <br />son stressed the necessity for <br />establishing some goals in maintain- <br />ing the 1970 distribution. He <br />feared that if nothing is done, this <br />city will end up with either very <br />low income families, and at the othez <br />end of the spectrum, the high income <br />family. <br />The Commissioners conceded that the <br />man in the middle of the income <br />strata is "stuck" with all the <br />taxes and yet is generally ineli- <br />gible for most subsidies available tc <br />his lower-salaried neighbor. The <br />Chairman did clarify one point, that <br />family income is often higher than <br />median income as derived from indi- <br />vidual employer statistices, since <br />many families in town have two <br />incomes. Also, that this problem <br />is far broader that just in this city <br />This same thought was mirrored by <br />Commissioner Pons. <br />Members of the Community Concerns <br />Committee did have various suggestio <br />to offer regarding methods to imple- <br />ment available housing for that <br />middle income group. <br />Some discussion followed regarding <br />the wording on Pages 34 and 37, <br />referring to possible funding of <br />housing for all sectors and the <br />discrimination factor. <br />The Public Hearing was then closed. <br />The Chairman felt some suggested <br />wording should be added to Page. 34 <br />to expand the City's involvement <br />in working with both State and <br />\\ <br />\\ <br />\~\\ <br />,\\\\\ <br />~~~~ , <br />E <br />E <br />I ~ ~ i <br />I I j, <br />I '. ~ ii. <br />-11- <br />
