CITY of PLEASANTON
Planning Commission
SPECIAL
Nl~lNL~T~~S ~Oi~ #~~X~-~2 MEHTFI~p.
Dote i February 20, 1974
Time ~ s :05 P.M.
PIaCe~ Veterans Memorial Building
'than the northern route which is es-
timated at $10,000,000 less. who
would be paying for the additional
$24,000,000 should the southern route
be chosen?
Mr. Goode replied that at this stage
in the study this has not been estab-
lished. Once the final choice is
made, then a funding method will be
set. However, it is his view that
the funding will be on an area-wide
basis. No one community will be
assessed extra for an additional
feature. Mr. Goode used the city of
Berke ley as an example. Originally,
only part of the line was to be in
subway. Subsequent to that, Berkeley
asked that the whole line be placed
underground. An agreement was enterer
into and Berkeley picked up the dif-
ferential. The same pattern, he
thinks, will hold over here. Com-
missioner Carrigan reiterated that.
no route has been adopted for Pleas-
anton at this time, and Mr. Goode
stated that whatever the adopted
route, that is the one which will be
funded as a package.
Chairman Pereira asked Mr. Goode how
bright are BART's chances for obtaini
further Federal assistance? Mr. Good
indicated that this is difficult to
answer; that it is reasonably good.
The Chairman wished to know whether
BART has tried through Federal court
action to see if the statutes as pre-
sently written is not prejudiced to
the Bay Area as some people claim?
Mr. Goode replied that BART's funding
was about 80~ local money and 20~
Federal money. If this is done now,
it would probably be reversed. The
-6-

\\
~~\\
\\\\\
~»»~
i
- --~-
