Mr. Korve stated
that there is an additional cost
penalty because of requiring more
aerial construction due to railroad
operation requirements. The northern
route would be less expensive.
IMr. Jack Bras questioned the residen-
tial development north of I-580 from
Tassajara to Valley. Is it safe to
~~assume it will remain open space?
Or, is it safe to assume that this
~jwill be filled with residential 50-75
'!years away? How would BART's thinkin
~be affected for the Valley? Mr.
!~Blayney indicated that it is not
(;estimated that by 1990 the population
~iwould reach that of the City or
;County General Plans. If this assump
''tion is not correct, then, of course,
'the northern route would have a
,'definite advantage to the southern
I route .
Mr. Trimingham suggested that perhaps
;if this occurs, and the southern
route is chosen, a branch line could
!be established running north to serve
the increase in population. Mr.
~Blayney indicated that the cost in-
~crease would be so great that no
"branch" lines will be instituted.
Commissioner Carrigan felt that the
cost factor should be discussed, re:
the cut-and-cover method through the
downtown costing $24,000,000 more
-5-
_._..._ .... __... .... .. .. .. .._....,. .__.. _. ._._-T__._.... _ ...__. ... _..._.. _._.._._..__
~~~~~~
iaa»»
