CITY of PLEASANTON
Plan~nfng Commission
SPECIAL
MINUT~~ ~0~ i~ ME~TFN(i.
OGfe = February 20, 1974
Time t s:o5 P.M.
PiGCA; Veterans Memorial Building
ously accomplished. The total pre-
mium cost for the cut-and-cover woul
be $24,000,000 more than the aerial
structure. It would not be possible
to run BART at grade through downtow
Pleasanton.
IIn essence, BART would use public or
railroad rights-of-way. One of the
advantages to this procedure would
be that no one agency is in a positio
to buy and protect the right-of-way
now, thus making their position more
'vulnerable.
!The northern route would consist of
some aerial crossings along the north
;edge of Val Vista, and go north of
iW. Las Positas Blvd., close to the
proposed Valley Memorial Hospital sit
The proposal here is that more resi-
dential area would be located around
it to maximize participation. This
route would entail an amendment to
the General Plan. This route is
$15,000,000 cheaper than the southern
route because it is a mile shorter an
contains more at-grade construction.
IThe southern route would cut trip
time by about two minutes for Pleas-
anton residents. It would mean
,greater utilization of the fairground
,The trend is toward more intensive
I, development and use of the fairground
'This station would connect downtown
'.Pleasanton with downtown Livermore.
~IThis, again, is an advantage which
'is difficult to quantify. This route
(Station J) would aid in establishing
the importance of the Civic Center
area and would give impetus to down-
town office development and the San
Francisco Water Department lands.
-3-
\\
\\
