CITY of PLEASANT(TN
Planning Commission
SPECIAL
MINuTEi~ ~OF R~~1~~ M~ETINQ.
Date ,~ Fe'bruary 20 , 1974
Time ~ s:os P.M.
F'IaRO~ Veterans Memorial Building
quire the system? Mr. Goode could
not pinpoint this but conjectured
the system to be about eight years
away. As far as the least expensive
way to acquire the system, Mr. Goode
stated that sometimes the desirabilit
of the cheapest route or what appears
to be' the cheapest route , is not the
case once it is in existence. Mr.
Blayney suggested that perhaps the
wisest course is to negotiate the
strongest bargaining position. If
there is to be a choice of a subway
through downtown Pleasanton, then
vote for it. The City's views should
be clearly stated. The Chairman
did not agree this should be stated
that strenuously. Sometimes this
just cannot be done.
Mr. Trimingham then stated that based
on all that he has seen and heard,
he favors the southern route with
the undergrounding of the system
through the downtown section.
There being no further testimony,
the Public Hearing was closed.
Commissioner McLain inquired as to
',what role the Metropolitan Transpor-
tation Commission would play in the
'.selection of the route . Mr. Goode
iindicated that MTC would be deciding
show funding would occur for the route
chosen. They are a party to this
study, since three MTC Commissioners
are on the policy board as well. He
would expect that whatever route is
recommended by the project/policy
board, will be accepted by the full
Commission. And, the decision re-
garding which extensions ultimately
are to be utilized does lie with the
Metropolitan Transportation Commission
-13-
~~~»~
~~
i
i
l ._.~. __ ~.. ~
