CITY of PLEASANTQN
Planning Commission
MINUT~~ ~OF REGULAR M~QTINC~,
Dots : April 10, 1974
Tlrnq j 8:16 P. M.
Plaaa; Pleasanton Justice Court
This proposed development is to be located
north of Livermore, it will be approximately
4,300 acres in size, with a population of
40,000-45,000. It will carry out a 20-year
build-out period and contain about 15,000
dwelling units. In addition, it is proposed
to have sufficient job centers to employ
9,000 people. Housing will cover a wide
variety. The town concept consists of a
network of individual housing-commercial-
service centers connected by ring roads.
These various features of the town were
depicted on a collection of renderings which
were presented by Mr. Fairman.
At the conclusion of the presentation, the
Chairman thanked the consultants, and opened
the session to discussion.
In answer to the question from the Commissio
of what will this new community do for or
to Pleasanton, Mr. Fairman replied that it
should alleviate some of the growth problems
existing here, and for all intent and pur-
pose, should absorb the projected growth for
the Valley.
Further discussion took place on incorpora-
j tion of new towns and the role HUD plays
';,within this sphere; the types of facilities
;which will be provided, especially water.
~~Mr. Fairman stated he had talked with Zone 7
abut had not asked for any kind of commitment
,which in turn, has not been given by them.
He further stated that Zone 7 had passed a
resolution stating that they would not serve
Ida ny new area at the expense of their exist-
I!ing customers, whereupon Chairman Pereira
~ inquired if Mr. Geldermann had an alternativ
~ to Zone 7 water. Mr. Fairman said that they
would derive their water source from the aqu
duct, but conceded it would not be as satis-
factory.
,Some further discussion centered on the New
Town absorbing redistribution of population,
-2-
.}.. _ . .... .... ... . _._ .T....._,, ... ~ _.,_,._....____.. .._,,.._, .. ....
s
~~\\\
\\\\~\
»»»~
