Mr. Grant <br />stated that those pilots who engage <br />in that enterprise are usually aware <br />of the potential dangers and compen- <br />sated for these hazards. <br />Commissioner Doherty inquired as to <br />what "twice" the cost of using the <br />northern route translated into.. Mr. <br />Grant said that the total cost for <br />the project is about $2,500,000. Mr. <br />Anderson stated that on this particu- <br />lar route it would mean extra cost <br />of $250,000-$300,000. <br />Commissioner Butler had no questions <br />at this time. <br />Mr. Grant then discussed the fluor- <br />escent ball which EBRPD had requeste <br />be suspended from the 12-KV lines to <br />warn aircraft. He presented a model <br />for review and stated they can look <br />for one something like 36 inches in <br />diameter and suspended completely <br />across the line. <br />Commissioner Doherty then discussed ~ <br />aircraft flying at night and what <br />warning devices would be employed. <br />Mr. Grant replied that the FAA, when <br />considering this, would set the re- <br />quirements, and P.G.&E. would comply. <br />In answer to Chairman Wood's questio <br />Secretary Harris indicated that if <br />P.G.&E. had denoted the route north <br />of Stanley Boulevard as acceptable, <br />that this route be staff's first <br />choice. <br />Commissioner Carrigan concurred with <br />Commissioner Doherty's question of <br />right-of-way versus cost tied in wit <br />-6 - <br />
