Administrative Policy
City of Pleasanton
September 1990
Page 2

PROGRAM ELEMENTS

A. Facilities:

Preferential parking stalls are provided at City Hall and other City installations
as needed for use by employee carpools and vanpools.
Bicycle storage (racks or internal building space) is provided for the convenience
and safety of bicycle riders.
Display racks and/or bulletin boards are provided at all City installations to
display current commute information and allow employees to post "riders/ride
wanted" notices.

B. Services:

Personal commute assistance is provided by the TSM staff for City employees.
This service includes ridematching, transit schedules, bicycle routes and
establishing or maintaining car/vanpools.
Emergency transportation home is provided by the City, to the extent possible,
for employees using commute alternatives. An emergency is limited to illness or
an accident occurring with the employee or a member of the employee's
immediate family. The employee's supervisor will arrange for a driver and/or
vehicle to transport the affected employee.
New employees are briefed by TSM staff during their orientation about commute
alternatives and the employee TSM program.
Current commute and general transportation information is provided employees
through articles in the "Pipeline", bulletin board displays, and flyers.

C. Incentives:

Commuter of the Month/Year awards are offered for employees who use
commute alternatives. The City has established a monthly drawing system for a
$50 cash award, and an annual drawing system for a bed-and-breakfast weekend
for two.

The following procedures apply:

At the end of each month a flyer is distributed to all employees which
describes the drawing and includes an entry form. An employee who has
used a commute alternative on an average of three days per week for the
entire month may complete the entry form and return it to the Planning
Department.
