The Chairman felt th
if there was no legal responsibility here
perhaps the question of moral responsibil
would need to be addressed.
Commissioner Shepherd felt that there is
question that the City would, in fact, be
competition with Tennis Town. It must al
be considered if an individual wants to j~
a club, he has a place to go, but if he w.
to play by the hour, he does not have too
many places to go.
Further discussion took place regarding tl
related uses which might occur, such as
pro shop, babysitting, etc. Perhaps the s.
might be in conflict.
Councilmember McLain explained that the
Council had been initially approached reg.
ing operation of the tennis courts at the
Fairgrounds. He agreed that the City shop
not be in competition with private enterp~
Council has not seen the plan proposed by
the Fairgrounds yet regarding possible pri
shop, etc. It was his understanding that
proprietors of Tennis Town were contacted
they voiced no concerns that the City's
enterprise at the Fairgrounds would underc
their business.
The Commissioners still felt that Council
should be made aware of Commission's concE
regarding this matter. Councilmember McLF
stated he would relate their position to
the other Council members.
In closing, Deputy City Attorney Levine
emphasized that the courts at the Fairgroi
would merely be an extension of existing
services which the City now provides.
-8-
