Commissioner Wilson asked what the floor to floor height was on
the first floor. Mr. Munsun asnwered it was 18 feet. Commissioner
Wilson asked the floor to ceiling height on the first floor. Mr.
Munsun stated it would be 12 feet. Commissioner Wilson asked the
height on floor to ceiling on the other four floors. Mr. Munsun
stated it would be 9 feet on floors 2-5 and the floor to floor height
is 13'6" which would allow them to put all mechanical ducting below
the beam structure.
Commissioner Jamieson asked if the laddering system being proposed
is something of a standard nature. Mr. Munsun answered something
of this nature was not usually required because in buildings of
this size there was usually fire fighting equipment available to
handle this height.
Mr. Munsun stated that this system had not yet been designed but
it is a fairly simple procedure. He also stated that he had
talked to Fire Chief Hill and had agreed that once it was designed
it would be brought back to him for approval.
Commissioner Doherty stated that one concern was fire protection
but another concern was that there are a lot of people who do not
want any building over 65 feet. He stated it was his intent that
there would be no building over 65 feet in Pleasanton He further
stated that he feels the buildings presented tonight were super and
felt they were first class, but stated he could not support this
height.
Mr. Munsun stated that at the time the building was designed he
thought the height was still negotiable and it was not their intent
to not follow an established rule.
Mr. Gage stated that on the surface there appears to be a 20 foot
differential but if measured from top of parapet it is actually
only approximately 7 feet over.
Commissioner Wilson expressed regret that there is an ordinance
which would allow this.
Commissioner Doherty expressed concern that maybe their original
intents were not communicated verbatim to the Council who went
ahead and put the ordinance through.
Commissioner Lindsey also expressed his concern.
Mr. Swift stated he thought the Planning Commission did recommend
a 65 foot height, but the Council added the clause that if the
Fire Department had the capability to fight fires, and the Fire
Department has indicated that with respect to this building they
approve the proposed laddering system as being adequate for them to
fight fires which would meet the requirements of the ordinance.
-~-
