Commissioner Getty asked, prior to her vote, if there are any plans
to put signals in on Vineyard Avenue at any of the major intersections.
Mr. Warnick stated that there are no plans in the capital improvement
projects. Commissioner Getty asked about the City's position in
putting in signals along Vineyard Avenue at Amador Court. Mr. Warnick
responded that typically with such a small amount of traffic you
would install left-turn lanes for storage of traffic but that these
types of streets are not installed with signals. Commissioner Getty
then asked about traffic on Pico and Vineyard Avenue. Mr. Warnick
explained.
Vice Chairperson Jamieson explained again that the City Council
previously approved 61 units for Mr. Mike Harris and they are only
asking for 21 additional units. He said that all concerned citizens
should speak to City Council concerning the traffic situation of the
area. He urged that a traffic study be done.
Commissioner Wilson said a traffic study would be better when Pico
Avenue is completed in the spring. Mr. Warnick concurred with
this as one could better see the traffic flow after this connection
is made. Commissioner Getty said that over and above a traffic
study a safety study is needed. She said when cars are turning left,
that because of the sun, frequently you cannot see a vehicle's
blinker lights on when going east on Vineyard Avenue. She said
the apartments already in the area need to have better identification
so that a car can more safety turn into and out of their driveways.
She said Mr. Madden's project is the best in this regard.
A motion was made by Commissioner Doherty, seconded by Commissioner
Getty that a recommendation be made to City Council that an assess-
ment district, or by some other means, to look at a traffic study
of the entire area of Vineyard Avenue from First Street to Pico
Avenue after the Pico Avenue extension is through and in the interim
to support the efforts of the Valley Business Park to get Valley
Avenue put through to Santa Rita Road.
ROLL CALL VOTE
Ayes: Commissioners Doherty, Getty, Wilson and
Vice Chairperson Jamieson
Noes: None
Absent: Chairperson Lindsey
Abstain: None
-13-
