Ron Schneider, 650 Orofino Court, indicated the problem is not with
the units but rather the proposed location because all high density
is being concentrated in this one area. He indicated he had called
Wes Jost, of the City, who indicated to him there has not been any
recent traffic study in the area. He said whether the extension of
Pico Avenue helps or hinders is merely a guess. He presented a
visual aide for the Commission. He stated that persons using Pico
Avenue extension will be those going to Livermore. He said there are
no plans for the extension of Valley Avenue. Mr. Warnick confirmed
this stating that it is currently not in the capital improvement
budget. Mr. Schneider indicated that a person had requested the
City to put in a left turn signal at First Street and Vineyard Avenue
which was denied because there was a lack of traffic.
Sue Glanville, 3069 Chardonnay Drive, felt the 61 units approved
should stand and that if in 10 years the units are converted, Mr.
Harris will still have provided housing which is really needed.
Keith Robinson, 3720 Bairn, spoke in support of this project because
Pleasanton needs rental units.
Donna Graves, Mavis Drive, asked where the proposed bike lane will
be going. Mr. Warnick said a portion will be in the county where
it doesn't have a curb, gutter or sidewalk; between Adams and
Mavis. Mrs. Graves asked about the area between Adams and First
Street. Mr. Warnick indicated there are sidewalks in this area
and this area will not be included in the bike path installation.
Mrs. Graves said she liked apartments more than condominiums for
the people, but kids ride bikes down Vineyard to go to school and
this is a very dangerous situation. She said there is not enough
room for bikes and that adding any more traffic to this area is an
accident waiting to happen. She further stated that the Pico Avenue
extension will not do any good. She said she didn't believe there
would be any relief for this area until Vine Street goes through.
She said she could not support the number of units proposed for the
above reasons. Vice Chairperson Jamieson reminded the audience that
Mr. Harris already has 61 units approved.
Paul Bruener, 424 Amador Court, spoke to traffic concerns. He
indicated he goes westbound on Vineyard to go to Silicon Valley and
that the intersection of Vineyard and First Street calls for some
sort of traffic study. He urged a traffic study be done for the
area. He said left-turn lanes are needed.
Vice Chairperson Jamieson then asked D'ir. Warnick about the possibility
of a traffic study. Mr. Warnick responded that they have not been
instructed to perform a traffic study.
-10-
