A motion was made by Commissioner Getty, seconded by Commissioner
Wilson, that Case GP-82-11 be denied.
ROLL CALL VOTE
Ayes: Commissioners Getty, Jamieson, Wilson, and Chairperson Lindsey
Noes: None
Absent: Commissioner Doherty
Abstain: None
Resolution No. 2248 was then entered recommending denial of Case GP-82-11.
MATTERS FOR COMMISSION'S REVIEW
At this time, Commissioner Wilson requested that Item 8a be placed
second to last on the agenda and that Item 7a be placed at the end of
the agenda. There were no objections.
Video Games Ordinance
Mr. Harris stated this item had not been scheduled as a public hearing
but was just for Commission's review of two draft ordinances which they
had requested regarding video games. He stated that the public hearing
will be held in January although they should take public testimony at
this time. Mr. Harris reviewed the Staff Report.
Mr. Swift stated that basically staff had just tried to incorporate
into the ordinances concerns made by the Commission.
Chairperson Lindsey asked if anyone in the audience wished to address
this matter.
Brad Hirst, Pleasanton, stated he would like to make two suggestions.
Under standards relating to bicycle racks, he recommended that a maximum
number of bicycle racks be recommended, because a very large establishment
might have 80 games and he did not feel the City would want 160 bicycle
racks. Mr. Hirst also stated that under the pinball ordinance, he would
like to recommend that the number of machines be reduced from 4 to 2 or 3.
Jay Hendrick, representative from Chuck E Cheese, stated that at their
place of business, they required all children be accompanied by a
parent and therefore had very little need for bicycle racks. Mr.
Hendrik asked for a couple of clarifications on the proposed ordinances.
After discussion, the Commission initiated ordinance code changes
as presented by staff.
Report on Newspaper Dispensers
Mr. Swift apologized for not having the information requested at the
November Planning Commission meeting regarding potential regulations
of newsracks. He stated, however, that even though the matter would
be continued, the Commission should hear testimony if anyone in the
audience would like to speak.
-6-
