Mr. Harris reviewed the Staff Report. The public hearing was opened. No one addressed this matter. The public hearing was closed. A motion was made by Commissioner Wilson, seconded by Commissioner Jamieson, to initiate a General Plan amendment on the property shown in the Staff Report to change the zoning from Open-Space - Parks and Recreation to Medium Density Residential and High Density Residential. ROLL CALL VOTE Ayes: Commissioners Getty, Noes: None Absent: Commissioner Doherty Abstain: None Jamieson, Wilson, and Chairperson Lindsey GP-82-11, Diocese of Oakland Application of the Diocese of Oakland to amend the General Plan designation of approximately 13 acres of land located on the south side of Bernal Avenue extension immediately west of the Southern Pacific Railroad tracks from High Density Residential to Commercial and Offices. A negative declaration of environmental impacts will also be considered. Mr. Harris reviewed the Staff Report. The public hearing was opened. Jim Steadman, Walnut Creek, representing the Diocese of Oakland, addressed the Commission. Mr. Steadman reviewed the past history on the Diocese of Oakland's property ownership in Pleasanton stating that the Diocese had owned the subject property since the early 50's. He explained tree sale of part of their property to the City. He further stated that they felt the property they retained would be designated Office-Commercial. Mr. Steadman stated the Diocese has fully cooperated with the City in the past and that the sale of their property to the City was done at a reduced price. Mr. Steadman stated that the Diocese does not want residential use for their property and do not have any plans to develop it as such. He referred to a general plan map on the. wall and explained why he felt the use they are requestinq is appropriate. The public hearing was closed. Commissioner Getty stated she felt this area was a perfect spot for High Density Residential development. -5-
