Mr. Geoffrion was advised that he could appeal this decision to City Council
within 15 days of that date.
A motion was then entered and adopted continued the matter on the design
review of the pool until the applicant either applied for and received a
conditional use permit for his business or appealed this action to the
City Council.
Roll Call Vote
Motion: Butler
Seconded: Wood
Ayes: Doherty, Jamieson, Shepherd, Wood, Chairman Butler
Noes: None
Absent: None
Abstain: None
Review of policy on public buildings - The staff report was described briefly
by Secretary Harris.
The Chairman felt that consideration should be given to differences between
public buildings in general as opposed to specific types of public buildings
such as a large post office (or a county jail, as indicated by Commissioner
Jamieson). Commissioner Doherty also felt that something more definitive
should be considered. Secretary Harris indicated that any use in the Civic
Center would be a conditional use, thus affording the necessary controls.
Commissioner Wood felt the statement as written would be appropriate, since
it should not be too restrictive.
Commissioner Jamieson felt the word "appropriate" should be substituted for
"policy" and perhaps calling out the kinds of buildings the City would
like to see locate there and what they would not want to see there.
Chairman Butler agreed with Commissioner Doherty that something could possibly
be added as to the types of uses the City would want to see locate in the
Civic Center.
Commissioner Shepherd felt that the City should take the position of con-
trolling where these buildings go to the extent that they can.
Commissioner Wood felt that the approach should be a one of "soft sell."
A motion was then entered and adopted tabling this item and returning it
to staff for redraft.
Roll Call Vote
Motion: Jamieson
Seconded: Shepherd
Ayes: Jamieson, Shepherd, Wood
Noes: Doherty, Butler
Absent: None
Abstain: None
Commissioner Doherty stated some concern with postponement of such a matter,
as sometimes the Commission is not aware of possible ongoing negotiations.
-7-
