Mr. Brandes indicated than this review came about as a result of comments
from the Commission regarding trade schools in the industrial district,
at the time that an ordinance amendment to allow churches in that district
was considered. Commissioner Wood thanked Councilmember Brandes for his
concern and communication of this position to the Council.
The Public Hearing was opened. No one spoke for or against this matter and
the Public Hearing was closed.
Resolution No. 1484 was adopted recommending to the City Council that an
ordinance amendment be approved allowing trade schools as conditional uses
in the I-G District.
Roll Call Vote
Resolution: Wood
Seconded: Jamieson
Ayes: Doherty, Jamieson,
Noes: None
Absent: None
Abstain: None
Shepherd, Wood, Chairman Butler
Secretary Harris announced, at this point, that the last two items were
scheduled for January 24 before the City Council.
MATTERS FOR COMMISSION'S REVIEW
Review of Ordinance Code governing a request of Sunset Pools to install a .
model pool in front of their office at 4377 First Street.
Deputy City Attorney explained that he investigated the question of whether
the addition of a swimming pool to a sales office changed its classification
regarding conditional or permitted uses. His December 17, 1976 memorandum
to the Director of Planning concluded that the "business office" category
would not be appropriate if a pool were added to the sales office.
Chairman Butler stated that although this item is not an official public
hearing, the Commission would take testimony.
Mr. Larry Geoffrion, Manager of the Sunset Pool office spoke. He disagreed
with Mr. Levine's conclusions. He felt that regardless of whether a display
pool is added or not, his main purpose would be still to maintain an office
for the sale of pools. He concluded by stating that he would go along with
whatever the City recommends.
After further discussion as to the validity of Mr. Geoffrion's arguments, Mr.
Levine explained that there is a major difference in the scope of this use,
once a display pool is added. He suggested that the category of swimming
pool sales and service would be more appropriate.
Resolution No. 1485 was entered and adopted making the finding that swimming
pool sales and service is the correct category for this use requested by
Sunset Pools Manager should he decide to go ahead with the display pool.
Roll Call Vote
Resolution: Shepherd
Seconded: Wood
Ayes: Doherty, Jamieson, Shepherd, Wood, Chairman Butler
Noes: None
Absent: None
Absta~.n: None
_6_
..._~.-r--,-__.... _. _.... _ _. _ _ ,
