Mr. Robert <br />Harris stated it is R-l. <br />The public hearing was opened. <br />Mike Harris, the applicant spoke commending Brian Swift on his excellent <br />report. He stated his property is in a mixed area; much different than the <br />house across the tracks which is totally surrounded by other single- <br />family residences. Mr. Harris presented a map of the multi- single- <br />family and commercial properties surrounding his property. He stated the <br />properties have gone downhill between the railroad tracks and Main, citing <br />the house next door and that of the Amarals, and that if offices were <br />permitted in the area, restoration would take place upgrading the property. <br />Commissioner Jamieson inquired as to whether or not there were any offers <br />to purchase Harris' house. Mr. Harris said there was one contingency offer <br />which fell through and no other written offer was made. <br />Commissioner Jamieson asked Mr. Harris what his intent was in moving and <br />renovating the house. Mr. Harris explained they wanted to restore it, <br />redo the wood and everything in the house which they did. <br />Roger Nerton, representing his parents who reside at 462 St. Mary and <br />a neighbor who lives behind that house spoke in opposition to the <br />application for a general plan amendment. He stated homeowners want <br />and need full time neighbors. He stated others who signed Harris' appli- <br />cation were absentee property owners who have no interest in the surroundings <br />of their properties. He stated they do not believe Mr. Harris ever intended <br />to use this house as a residence. <br />Gil Barbee, 147 Bernal, spoke <br />of Directors in favor of the <br />blight between Peters Street <br />Title as an office within an <br />posal and can work.
