Goodwin from the denial of a home occupation permit
which would have allowed a beauty shop facility to be operated at her
residence at 7464 Alder Court. The property is zoned R-1-6500 (Single-
Family Residential) District.
Mr. Harris explained the staff report and reasons for recommendation of
denial.
As there were no questions of staff, Chairperson Doherty declared the
public hearing opened.
Juanita Goodwin, 7464 Alder Court, the applicant spoke. She stated she
would not be running a beauty salon per se as she is currently employed
in Oakland. She stated she merely wanted to aide neighbors and a few
friends in doing their hair. She stated she would only have a few people
a month coming to her home.
Commissioner Jamieson stated he has the same problems staff has with this
application in that a person could start out with five to ten patrons a
month and in a few months this figure could grow to 25 plus customers and
there is no way to control that. He stated this could add traffic problems
in the area. Mrs. Goodwin stated she did not intend to solicit customers.
Commissioner Jamieson asked Mr. Harris if any home occupations have been
granted for this type of use in the past. Mr. Harris stated he did not
recall any similar approvals.
-3-
