Mr. Harris stated there is a minimum size in the code but there is no
maximum size.
The public hearing was opened.
Fred Huston, 4460 Sandalwood, the developer of Meadow Plaza Shopping Center
addressed the Commission. He stated the property is 7.8 acres in size.
He stated they have done a feasibility study and hardware stores are
one of the largest needs in Pleasanton. He reviewed the C-N District
when hardware stores were allowed in years passed and then changed to
not being allowed. He stated this is a wholesome use and one that
promotes saving energy and time and one that is needed in the Meadows
area.
Chairperson Wilson asked who the tenants would be. Mr. Huston said the
anchor would be Savemart.
Betty Rider, 4393 Mirador Drive spoke. She said that as a housewife
she believes a hardware store would be a good idea in a neighborhood
shopping center as it would save time and energy.
The public hearing was closed.
Commissioner Getty stated she is against a hardware store in a
neighborhood shopping center. Commissioner Jamieson stated he thought
it would be a good idea and a necessary part of the neighborhood and
that there are only two hardware stores in town now. Commissioner
Lindsey stated he supported Commissioner Jamieson's opinion. Inasmuch
as Chairperson Wilson felt the vote would end up a tie, he stated this
matter would be continued to July 16, 1980 at the Alameda County Fair-
grounds for a full Commission. The meeting will be held at 7:30pm.
GP-80-1, City of Pleasanton
Review of Draft Revised Housing Element of the General Plan of the
City of Pleasanton formultaed pursuant to the State Government Code
Section 65302 and State Housing Element Guidelines.
