Commissioner Getty addressed funds being held for Peters Avenue. She <br />said she had concerns specifically about Peters Avenue being completed. <br />Jim Walker, City Manager, stated funds were not taken away from <br />the Peters Avenue project at all and that Peters Avenue will probably <br />be completed 1982/83. <br />Commissioner Getty further stated the Police Department building <br />has no identification as to it being the Police Department and asked <br />about 'police globes' for the lights. Mr. Walker stated that they <br />get stolen but would look into other identification for the police <br />station. <br />OLD BUSINESS - Public Hearings <br />There was no old business. <br />NEW BUSINESS - Public Hearings <br />UP-80-14, Interstate Uniform Services Corporation <br />Application of Interstate Uniform Services Corporation for a conditional <br />use permit to allow a 2,500 sq. ft. addition to the existing nuclear <br />laundry facility at 65 Ray Street. Zoning for the property is C-S <br />(Commerial Services) District. <br />Mr. Harris explained the staff report. He also stated that Anthony <br />and Dolores Rose, 141 Ray Street had come into the Planning Department <br />after the staff report was prepared and stated several objections <br />to the use permit including concerns with radiation contamination and <br />noise. Mr. Harris stated Mr. Connelly of Interstate would speak to <br />those concerns. He said staff is recommending approval of the use <br />permit as all required findings could be made. <br />The public hearing was opened. <br />Craig Connelly, Western Regional Manager of Interstate addressed the <br />Commission. He explained the type of business conducted on the premises. <br />He maintained there is no release of radioactive material and that all <br />water is put through a filtration system. <br />Commissioner Jamieson asked for an explanation of the system used. Mr. <br />Connelly responded. <br />Commissioner Lindsey asked how long the business had been in town. <br />Mr. Connelly said Interstate purchased the business in 1964 from <br />Nuclear Engineering Services and that the business started sometime <br />in the mid-50's. Commissioner Lindsey asked Mr. Connelly to comment <br />on the noise allegations. Mr. Connelly stated that their business <br />is of the type that they may not operate many hours and then go full <br />bore for 24. He stated the noise perhaps is from the truckers <br />listening to the radio while unloading. He stated he was not <br />familiar with the proximity of 141 Ray Street to 65 Ray Street. <br />Commissioner Lindsey asked if supervision was always present during <br />operations. Mr. Connelly stated most of the time a supervisor was <br />present. <br />-2- <br /> <br />
