Mr. Harris explained. <br />Chairperson Wilson stated that if Mr. Oakes oriented his buildings to <br />take advantage of passive solar, he would be the first to do so. <br />Commissioner Getty said the orientation of the buildings is not the <br />only way to take advantage of solar but it also involves roof over- <br />hangs, etc. <br />Chairperson Wilson asked if there is an ordinance yet governing solar <br />units on roofs. He stated they are very unsightly and he doubts if <br />they merit the cost. <br />The public hearing was opened. <br />George Oakes, 31123 Mission Boulevard, the applicant addressed the <br />Commission explaining the colors, textures, etc. of his proposal. He <br />stated he didn't want to reorient the buildings making a barracks- <br />type look. He said this is a pretty plan with much open space. <br />Commissioner Getty inquired about fencing alongside the park/school. <br />Mr. Oakes stated he has no opinion on this one way or the other inasmuch <br />as the homeowners could erect a fence should it be found that by not <br />having one could create a nuisance and that it is aesthetically more <br />pleasing without one. <br />Commissioner Jamieson asked the cost of maintenance regarding the common <br />area and Mr. Oakes stated it would be about $55 per month because of the <br />amount of landscaping on the site. <br />Commissioner Getty stated it would look nice not fenced. <br />Mr. Harris stated the police department would like it left open so <br />that they can have an easier view of the corridor. He stated Eucalyptus <br />takes up about 10 ft. reducing the corridors to 8 ft. Mr. Oakes stated <br />they planted the Eucalyptus many years ago. <br />Mr. Harris asked if the path could be designed so that a car could <br />drive through. Mr. Oakes said yes. <br />Chairperson Wilson asked for an explanation of the width of the walkway. <br />Mr. Oakes explained. <br />Robert Jersky, 4276 Churchill Drive, said his fence backs up to the <br />property and questioned the access and asked for a five minute recess <br />so that the residents present could view the plan submitted which they <br />previously had not seen.
