dangerous if an accident occurred and that having the physicist
present would not serve any useful purpose. He said currently there is
a furor in the industry with experts arguing with each other and asked
that the Planning Commission make a decision tonight.
Commissioner Doherty stated he has mixed emotions about this matter
inasmuch as General Electric, Southwest Nuclear, Livermore Lab and
others have come under fire recently.
Commissioner Jamieson stated it is a lack of education of the people
regarding this subject inasmuch as in the past everything was so
secretive.
Chairperson Wilson stated that he would be inclined to ask for more
information but inasmuch as the applicant doesn't want to proceed along
these lines, he would be inclined to deny this use permit.
A motion was then made by Commissioner Lindsey, seconded by Commissioner
Getty that case UP-80-14, the application of Interstate Uniform Services
Corporation be denied because required findings cannot be made to grant
this use permit.
ROLL CALL VOTE
Ayes: Commissioners Doherty, Getty, Jamieson, Lindsey and
Chairperson Wilson
Noes: None
Absent: None
Resolution No. 1894 was then entered and adopted denying case UP-80-14.
Commissioner Jamieson stated they should have had more expert advice
regarding this matter but inasmuch as the applicant didn't support this
matter, had no other recourse but to vote denial of the project.
Chairperson Wilson advised Mr. Connelly he had 15 days in which to appeal
this decision to the City Council.
Commissioner Getty asked that since the application was denied, was the
applicant going to revamp the building. Chairperson Wilson stated it
is evident with the new manager improvements are being made as it
looks much better than it did in the past. Mr. Connelly stated they
had planned to paint the building and do some landscaping whether or
not this application was approved but did not say so earlier.
UP-80-15, Jeanne Baker
Application of Jeanne Baker for a conditional use permit which would
allow the retention of rabbits at her residence located at 6387 Alvord
Way. The property is zoned R-1-6500 (Single-Family Residential) District.
-6-
