land use designation. A negative declaration of environmental impacts
was also considered.
Mr. Harris explained the staff report and stated that the Planning
Commission had previously initiated a general plan amendment to change
a portion of this property to high density residential but that this
was never processed because of the moratorium declared by the City
Council.
Chairperson Wilson stated that the Planning Commission toured approxi-
mately 18 locations for multiple sites and as a result believes at
least 10 acres of this parcel should be looked at for high density
residential. He stated people in Pleasanton do not want 80-100 acre
sites in one location for this density and that the City keeps giving
up small multiple land and getting larger parcels for it.
The public hearing was opened.
Robert Meyer, 1950 Domingo Road, Fullerton, California, the applicant,
urged approval of his general plan request. He stated that generally
speaking, industrial development is not compatible with residential
being right next to it and that the currently developed single-family
houses across the street have a sufficient buffer but that high density
residential on the proposed site would not. He stated this comment is
based on his 17 years experience as an industrial developer. Mr. Meyer
stated he has an 'escrow option' on this property. He further stated
he would like to bring in professional planning people to elaborate
with staff to come up with plans for the intersection. Henry Bettencourt,
Bettencourt-2~Sassey, 7000 Village Parkway, Dublin, spoke representing the
sellers of the property. He stated Mr. Lehey, the property owner, was
selective in his offering of the property because he is sensitive to
the issues at hand and recommended that the Planning Commission recommend
approval of the application.
The public hearing was closed.
Commissioner Lindsey stated he felt that the proposal was a logical use
for this particular piece of property.
Commissioner Doherty stated he was part of the tour mentioned by
Chairperson Wilson and at that time felt that at least 10 acres of the
property should be set aside for high density residential and he isn't
sure at this time that he has changed his mind with that regard. He
stated he has mixed emotions.
Commissioner Getty had no comments.
Chairperson Wilson asked Mr. Harris if the staff would like to comment
further concerning the case. Mr. Harris explained some of the Land Use
Committee recommendations to be heard later in the evening regarding
high density residential.
-3-
~...._.,._____..._.~_._. _ ----.. .. _ __-_rr .. _._. _ .... _ _ __ _ r. _
