Commissioner Doherty stated that the City has had a number of appli-
cations for day care and the State and County agencies have told
the City there is a need in single-family neighborhoods throughout
Pleasanton and that many applications have come through in the last
12 months. He stated the application can be reviewed in six months.
Commissioner Doherty stated that the petition against the application
covers one court and that perhaps if the neighbors would communicate
more some of this could have been resolved. Mr. Doyle said he would
like to see the number of children limited -- and not 12. He stated
he would like see the limit at 7 or 8 if the permit is granted.
Pat Wirth, 3602 Glacier Court North, spoke in support of the appli-
cation stating that the children are well supervised and taken care
of. She stated that she has been there when Mrs. Zolfarelli has
told the children to be quiet or come in the house when playing in the
back yard.
Chris Golbrath, 3614 Platt Court South, spoke in opposition to the
application as it is trend setting.
Theresa Avery, 3590 Glacier Court, spoke in support of the appli-
cation stating the lawnmowers early Saturday mornings are much more
offensive than the children playing at the Zolfarelli house. She
said that Mrs. Zolfarelli keeps the children quiet.
Sonya Burroughs spoke stating she has withdrawn her name from the
petition against this application but did not want to see a use
permit granted for 12 children as there could be a noise problem.
Stan Steiner, 3691 Hawaii Court South, spoke in favor of the appli-
cation and that this entire matter could have been handled better
by the neighbors and stated that the petition doesn't cover Hawaii
Court South, but rather Platt Court. He stated this service is
necessary and brings the entire neighborhood together.
Jeff Zolfarelli, husband of the applicant, spoke in support of the
conditional use permit. He addressed the fact that he has a police
dog by the name of Colombo. He explained the dog run and the fact
that the dog is with him most of the time. He also said the kids
play with the dog and urged approval of this application.
The public hearing was closed.
Commissioner Getty stated that something should be pointed out to
the people in opposition to this application; sooner or later every
street will have a request for day care. Commissioner Getty stated
she was impressed with the thoroughness of the applicant's presen-
tation.
Commissioner Lindsey stated it is his impression that there would
only be a short period of time when 12 would be taken care of;
and that this application can be reviewed in six months and that
the City can take into consideration the objections of the Platt
Court resident's in the review.
-8-
.... .. .......... ... ......... .......... _~ ...T.~......,..... .... .... ....... .......,..., .. ...... _.~........ ..... .... ..r.. ...... .n T... ... .....
