John Jefferson, 4016 Crest Court who lives behind Hoptry's, spoke in <br />opposition to the request because of the hours he has to sleep due <br />to his job. He said 6 are okay but urged denial of 12. <br />Mr. Pat Gibson, 6535 Singletree, stated he is on call 48 hours per day <br />as he drives an ambulance. He says the children go over the fence, <br />tear down rose bushes, etc. <br />Ardel Fountain, 4120 Payne, spoke in favor of the application. She <br />stated the area has a lot of children. She said Mrs. Hoptry is very <br />organized and, furthermore, a ball over the fence happens to everyone. <br />The public hearing was closed. <br />Commissioner Lindsey made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Jamieson, <br />to approve case UP-80-37 subject to the conditions of the staff report <br />modifying condition number 1 to reflect a total number of 7 children <br />and condition 2 that there be a time limit placed on the operation for <br />six months at which time the matter will be reviewed by staff and a <br />report made to the Planning Commission. <br />Commissioner Doherty again brought up the fact he would like to see the <br />staff, City Council and Human Services Commission, establish a policy <br />with regard to child care services. <br />Commissioner Getty stated she would like to see something done on the <br />matter quickly. She said she would like to know what the State Law <br />is concerning day care. <br />Mr. Harris stated we cannot refuse to take applications between now <br />and the time such a policy is established but can ask City Council to <br />place a moratorium on CUPs for day care centers. <br />Commissioner Doherty, citing Council member Mohr in the audience, said <br />that she, Mrs. Mohr, knows the concerns of the Planning Commission and <br />could, perhaps, assist. <br />A member of the audience stated that perhaps the matter should be <br />worked out with the Chamber of Commerce, and perhaps, the new Mall to -- <br />see if they might like to put together a day care service with pro- <br />fessional staff.
