Mrs. Christine Hoptry, 4123 Payne Road spoke. She stated that just
this week she received telephone calls from two people on Payne to
watch their children. She said she watches Val Vista children.
She stated that her property is one of the nicest in the area and
invited anyone to come who would like to see it.
Commissioner Getty asked if Mrs. Hoptry would be watching the same
number of children in the winter as in the summer. Mrs. Hoptry said
yes.
Commissioner Lindsey asked the amount of children Mrs. Hoptry would
be watching any one time. Mrs. Hoptry said 9. Commissioner Lindsey
then asked the hours the children would be there. Mrs. Hoptry says
this varies. She stated two of her own children are over 12 and
do not count.
The public hearing was opened.
Tom Hoptry, husband of the applicant, spoke. He said his wife has been
babysitting four years with 6 children as allowed and that these
people wouldn't be down here if his wife hadn't made application to
increase their number. He said he would like someone to show him
where the fence is down. He said he would also like to see where
the rocks, etc. are. He stated they would be able to get their own
petitions in support of their application.
Ronald Allen, 6519 Singletree spoke in opposition to the application
and presented petition which he and his family circulated. He
explained how his property is situated with relationship to that
of the Hoptry's. He said several years ago he replaced a section of
the fence. He says he complains to the children and not to the adults.
He said they are on the fence and noisy. He presented photographs.
He said the site would be overpopulated if 12 children were allowed.
Russ Tereau, 4141 Payne stated he lives next door to the applicant and
moved there in mid-June. He said he has nothing against the neighbors
but doesn't want 12 children plus two of their own. He said he found
out about the meeting December 7. He stated the children are not
supervised, they allow the older children to watch the younger ones
and the babysat children come over and ask their children to play and
they are all over the streets and yards. He said the children speak
in rough tones or language unbecoming young kids. He said he doesn't
want the area to become a commercial one.
Mrs. F. Martella, 4541 Fisher Court, spoke in favor of the application.
She stated she is the sister of the applicant and that the applicant
watches her six month old baby and doesn't need permission to watch
children of relatives.
Terry Berdeau, 4219 Payne Road, spoke in opposition stating the children
are not supervised, rocks were thrown in the fish pond so he had to
seal it. He said three or four children is plenty for any one person
to watch.
-8=
