Mr. Harris pointed out that on several occasions time limits have been
attached to day care approvals so that the situation can be reviewed.
Commissioner Lindsey stated that the numbers have to be controlled.
Chairperson Wilson asked Mr. Reali how many children she does watch
at any one time. Mrs. Reali said some of her children go to school
and one leaves at 3.:00 P.M. She says she has 6 but in the summer
will have 7. She stated she is on a court and Singletree and Payne
are completely down the street from her and the only way she knows
the Allens is because their son delivers the newspaper.
Chairperson Wilson asked if approval was granted for seven would that
take care of the problem. Mrs. Reali stated she would probably have
nine in the summer.
Chairperson Wilson asked how long Mrs. Reali had been watching children.
Mrs. Reali stated about four months.
Chairperson Wilson said Mrs. Reali should have been told she needs a
chart showing when and how many children she would be watching.
Commissioner Getty stated she didn't feel she could support a restriction
of 7 children because she didn't like a number put on the amount of
children to be watched.
Commissioner Doherty said a time limit could be placed on this and he
would direct staff to get together with City Council et al to establish
a policy regarding this.
ROLL CALL VOTE.
Ayes: Commissioners Doherty, Jamieson and Lindsey
Noes: Commissioner Getty and Chairperson Wilson
Resolution No. 1923 was then entered and adopted approving case UP-80-36
subject to the staff report changing condition number 1 to reflect a
maximum of 7 children including the applicant's own and that approval
is granted for six months at which time it will be reviewed by staff
for further approval and a report given back to the Commission as to
staff's actions.
UP-80-37, Christine Hoptry
Application o Christine Hoptry for a conditional use permit which
would allow a day care center for up to 12 children at her residence
which is located at 4123 Payne Road. The zoning for the property is
R-1-6500 (Single-Family Residential) District.
Because of a conflict of interest, Chairperson Wilson stepped down from
this case.
Mr. Harris presented the staff report and recommendation of approval.
He stated their is a need for this type of service within the community,
especially with more mothers working, as families are finding it
difficult to get along with one salary.
-7-
__... .~.._.._.___..__,~,.._...~........ .. .._..... _._. ___...., ~. _,. ........ _..~...._ _ _. .._....... .,._ . ..T ..._. _..... _._
