Each of the Commissioner's spoke and expressed concerns regarding
parking and traffic due to the coming and going of students and
teachers. They all felt they would like to have the school in
Pleasanton but that its present location was not appropriate,
perhaps if should be in a more commercial area, not in a residen-
tial area.
Commissioner Doherty, seconded by Commissioner Jamieson, moved to
deny the application.
ROLL CALL VOTE
Ayes: Commissioners Doherty, Jamieson, Wilson
Chairperson Getty
Noes : Commissioner Lindsey
Resolution No. 2028 was entered and adopted denying Case PUD-81-12.
GP-81-4, Widenin of Ho and Road - Circulation Element
Application o the City o P easanton to amen the Circulation Element
of the General Plan to show Hopyard Road between West Las Positas
Boulevard and I-580 as a six-lane major thoroughfare. rather than a
four-lane thoroughfare and to construct roadway improvements (Includ-
ing utilities) to widen to six lanes the existing four-lane Hopyard
Road between Valley Avenue and Johnson Drive. The six lane roadway
will include median, bicycle lanes, left/right turn lanes and acceler-
ation/deceleration lanes as required. The improvements include con-
struction of a bridge across the Arroyo Mocho adjacent to the existing
bridge. The improvements just southerly of Johnson Drive may require
some acquisition of improved properties; otherwise, the improvements
will take place easterly of the existing roadway and within existing
right-of-way. A negative declaration of environmental impacts will
also be considered.
P4r. Harris reviewed the staff report.
Mr. Edward Andrews, 6216 Roslin Court, spoke in opposition to the
widening and expressed concern regarding noise levels and increase
in truck traffic.
Mr. Don Savery, 6738 Rancho Court was concerned about the trees on
Hopyard Road (approximately 60 on the east side) and would like an
effort made to move the trees in order to preserve them. He was also
upset by the number of cross streets being added and wanted a limita-
tion on the Prudential property regarding entrances and exits. Mr.
Savery also addressed the issue of widening the I-580 overpass indi-
cating that there is a bottleneck there and. widening Hopyard would
be useless unless the freeway overpass is also widened.
Mr. Joe Callahan of CPS & Associates indicated his company was now
trying to determine if the trees can be moved and survive and will
move to a new location acceptable to the City. He also stated they
will only be adding two cross streets to Hopyard.
-13-
