MATTERS INITIATED BY THE COMMISSION MEMBERS
Commissioner Jamieson discussed the length of the meetings and the
statistical data he supplied to the Commissioners covering the last
14 months. Commissioner Jamieson then asked for Commissioners' input
and suggestions on the matter:
Commissioner Wilson - felt that if two meetings are required, he would
prefer they be one week apart and agreed that if a case is going to
take a long time, perhaps it should be continued until the next meeting.
Commissioner Lindsey - Suggested the meetings start at 6:00-6:30 p.m.
and end earlier. He concurred with a week separation between meetings.
Commissioner Doherty - Prefers the meetings be in the same week since
he travels out of state and out of the country. This would allow him
to better plan his time. He stated perhaps a heavier gavel might be
in order.
Commissioner Wilson - Since the Board of Adjustment and Design Review
Board use alternate Commissioners anyway, if Commissioner Doherty should
happen to be out of town, another could substitute for him.
Chairperson Getty asked Mr. Harris if he knew whether or not the long
agendas would continue or whether they were especially heavy just during
this time. Mr. Harris stated it appears the agendas will continue to be
long.
Commissioner Wilson addressed Commissioner Jamieson's concerns with
regard to the length of time given to various cases. Commissioner
Jamieson stated he felt the meetings should start at 7:30 p.m. and end
at 11:00 p.m. and allow no more than 30 minutes for each case and that
if the number of items dictated the meeting to run over that time, they
should be rescheduled or continued until the next meeting. He also
prefers that the Board of Adjustment and Design Review Board be heard
prior to the Planning Commission meetings. He said it is unfair to the
applicants and others involved to have long meetings as their repre-
sentatives are usually paid by the hour.
Commissioner Lindsey - On a regular basis he would object to meeting
more than twice a month. He stated he would rather go to midnight than
have more than two meetings.
Chairperson Getty - Suggested two meetings a month with each meeting
to include the Board of Adjustment, Design Review Board and Planning
Commission. Commissioner Wilson concurred.
Commissioner Doherty - Suggested two meetings allowing 15 minutes for
the Design Review Board and Board of Adjustment with 30 minutes per case
for the Planning Commission. Commissioner Jamieson said this should
balance things out.
-2-
