The public hearing was opened. <br />Percival Scales, partner of Essenar Investments of Auburn, spoke stating <br />they concur with the recommendations of the staff report and urged <br />approval. Commissioner Lindsey asked the exact location. Mr. Scales <br />stated it would replace the Mode-O-Day shop, formerly the Gold Hanger. <br />Commissioner Doherty asked if the Pet Shop were owned by the same people <br />who used to be known as Pipers? <br />The public hearing was closed. <br />A motion was made by Commissioner Lindsey, seconded by Commissioner Wilson, <br />that all appropriate findings can be made (as stated in the staff report) <br />and that case UP-81-28 be approved subject to the conditions shown in <br />the staff report. <br />ROLL CALL VOTE <br />Ayes: Commissioners Doherty, Jamieson, Lindsey, Wilson and <br />Chairperson Getty <br />Noes: None <br />Absent: None <br />Abstain: None <br />Resolution No. 2074 was then entered and adopted approving case UP-81-28 <br />subject to the conditions shown in the staff report of 10/14/81. <br />UP-81-27, Lance J. Hopkins <br />Application of Lance J. Hopkins for a conditional use permit which would <br />allow a video game room with approximately 20 video machines at 525 Main <br />Street. The property is zoned C-C (Central Commercial) District. <br />Mr. Harris presented the staff report and recommendation of denial. <br />The public hearing was opened. <br />Lance Hopkins, co-applicant with his wife, spoke in support of his appli- <br />cation. He stated he appreciates the concerns with regard to the business <br />between two bars but that his business would be supervised and close <br />at curfew. He stated the young people do need a place to go. He stated <br />he would be happy with a temporary use permit which could be reviewed <br />prior to extension. <br />Commissioner Wilson asked the applicant what his line of business is. <br />Mr. Hopkins explained he works for a sales agency, is an officer in the <br />Army reserve, and is accustomed to dealing with youth. He stated his <br />wife has a teaching credential and is also in the reserve. <br />The owner of Robert Thomas Photography, located immediately across the <br />street from 525 Main Street spoke in opposition to this use. <br />The public hearing was closed. <br />Commissioner Lindsey stated that while he is convinced of the sincerity <br />of the applicants, he does not feel the use is appropriate at 525 Main <br />Street because a loitering problem could develop and it would be between <br />two bars. <br />-6- <br />_. <br />
