Mr. Harris spoke to concerns with regard to other peripheral pro-
perties and additional uses constructed in the 'egg' of the shopping
center and has real concerns whether the street system is going to
work and their ability to handle the ultimate peak traffic. He
said the applicant furnished a traffic report but the data used was
outdated. He said it would do no one any good if they are allowed
to build the floor area they want and no one can get to or from the
site because of an inefficient circulation system. Chairperson
Getty asked what the square footage of the area should be to mitigate
the traffic concerns that staff has at this time. Mr. Harris said
there is no reason to allow more intensity with this development than
other properties in the north Pleasanton area. He indicated that
Daon shouldn't have floor area for their office any higher than 50g
coverage. Commissioner Lindsey asked how one would determine that
50% wouldn't be too high. Mr. Harris indicated that the square
footage figures in the traffic report is not the same as that approved
in the Stoneridge center. He said that Mr. Ivy (Barton Aschman) is
going to talk to Taubman and get additional figures. Mr. Cox indi-
cated they have worked with Taubman regarding the traffic circulation
with the interchange at I-580 and I-680.
Chairperson Getty suggested that perhaps shuttle busses in the area
transporting people to the shopping center/business area might be
a way to address transportation concerns.
Commissioner Lindsey indicated that the morning and evening hours
would have quite a lot of traffic in the area.
Commissioner Jamieson said he didn't see any collector roads that
come around to pick up the traffic and that it looks as though if you
are coming into the business area from the west you have two main
collector roads and then must go around the periphery of the buildings.
Commissioner Jamieson then asked Messrs. Fisher and Cox to explain the
road to the hotel and ingress and egress from the shopping center.
Commissioner Lindsey then discussed traffic coming in from I-680,
Foothill Road.
Commissioner Jamieson then addressed the color of the proposed building
with brick and black glass. He referred to another brick building in
town which was cold in appearance, in his opinion. Mr. Rockhold
stated you can get various colors in brick and they will be looking
for something similar to the color shown on the model presented.
Chairperson Getty said that one cannot compare the other building
with this building inasmuch as this building will have an extensive
amount of glass and greenery. Commissioner Jamieson rebutted that
to him brick buildings are cold. Mr. Cox asked if concrete and
stucco would be preferred. Commissioner Jamieson indicated he
preferred lighter earthtones.
Commissioner Jamieson addressed fire access. Mr. Rockhold stated
that this has been worked out with the fire department to everyone's
satisfaction and he explained the plan proposed.
-5-
