Commissioner Jamieson felt that over the years this site has become
an eye sore with tires stacked behind the station, tires used for
signing, etc. He said the landscaping hasn't been taken care of
either. He indicated he would like to see the use permit granted
for two years rather than four.
Commissioner Getty asked if the expensive homes built on the hill
side will look down on the station. Mr, Harris said they would.
Chairperson Lindsey indicated he would like to hear from the applicant.
The public hearing was opened,
Jim Cross, 821 Sylvaner, concurred with the conditions imposed on the
staff report and agreed that the area has been an eye sore, He said he
intends to keep the station neat and orderly and that he has been
attempting to lease the station from Texaco for the last two years and
finally pressure from the City about the maintenance has prompted
Texaco to lease to him,
Chairperson Lindsey asked the applicant if he would be on the premises
full time, Mr. Cross said he would be there on a part-time basis but
that this would be a family operation with both of his sons working
there,
Commissioner Lindsey asked Mr. Cross the length of his lease and
Mr. Cross said it is four years,
Mr, Cross then stated his sons were 23 and 24 years old and have had
much experience in the field,
Chairperson Lindsey felt that this may not be the best location in
town for the proposed use, He said he has a real concern about the
activity of a garage citing Pleasanton Garage on Main Street doing a
great job but they still have cars parked around the area, Mr, Cross
responded that the only way to convince the Commission would be for
them to look at his operation and that he fully understands the reasons
for the concerns, He said that customer vehicles would not be left
out overnight but that during the day there may be cars waiting
but all of the work will be done in the bays as shown on the plot
plan and that will not be a visual problem at the location. He
indicated if a problem should develop he would hope someone would
let him know about it right away.
Commissioner Jamieson asked Mr, Cross if he realized how strongly
the Planning Commission feels about this location, Mr, Cross
indicated he did,
-8-
