PLANNING COMMISSION <br />3/23/83 <br />Page 2 <br />currently in San Jose and in Sacramento such facilities have <br />been used. <br />Commissioner Doherty asked if there is a specific site in <br />mind concerning this proposal. Mr. Victor stated that they <br />have looked at the area of Sunol and Sonoma for such a use <br />but that they have not established a definite property. <br />Commissioner Doherty stated he is not sure he would agree to <br />change the zoning to accommodate this use as he would like <br />to first see the proposal of a specific site. He indicated <br />he has no problem with the location of a church in any particular <br />area but would like to be specific. <br />Commissioner Wilson suggested that the applicant might want <br />to look into the use of the existing Police Facilities. <br />Mr. Harris explained that what the applicant is proposing <br />could not be done with a variance, but that the church would <br />have to be placed in an area where it is permitted or conditionally <br />permitted and that if the location proposed is neither one of <br />these, no variance could be applied for and granted -- a <br />proposal such as this would require a zoning code change. <br />Chairperson Lindey asked about PUD zoning. Mr. Harris explained <br />that there would have to be PUD amendments to change uses <br />approved for a particular site if it is zoned PUD. <br />Commissioner Jamieson asked about School District property. <br />Mr. Victor again explained the School District is not receptive <br />to the use of their buildings by any churches because of <br />potential conflict. <br />Commissioner Wilson asked where the congregation met prior to <br />their use of the Fairgrounds. Mr. Victor explained that their <br />congregation is a new one and they met at various places. <br />Chairperson Lindsey stated he could not support blanket approval <br />of Mr. Victor's request.
