PLANNING COMMISSION
3/23/83
Page 3
indicated that perhaps the Commission would entertain the
idea of a temporary conditional use permit in either the I-G
or I-P Districts.
Chairperson Lindsey then asked the other members of .the Commission
if they concurred with this statement. They indicated that they
did. Commissioner Wilson said perhaps this would be for Sundays
only. Commissioner Doherty felt that any church would be
using the facilities at other times as well.
MATTERS INITIATED BY COMMISSION MEMBERS
Commissioner Jamieson told staff that both he and Mrs. Getty
felt adamant about striping or marking the divider strips on
Santa Rita Road last year. He asked staff to again consider
this at their next traffic committee meeting. He said recently
a motorcycle hit a divider strip and was killed. He asked
who the members of the traffic committee are. Mr. Warnick responded
indicated that he, West Jost, a member of the police department
and field services comprise the committee.
Chairperson Lindsey asked about the minor modification
approved by staff for Breilh Homes received recently. Mr. Harris
stated that City Council has appealed the matter so it will
come before the Planning Commission and City Council in the
future.
Commissioner Doherty stated that he had called staff on this
matter earlier in the week and asked questions concerning the
proposal.
Commissioner Wilson stated that at the last meeting an applicant
proposed a multi-residential site on Santa Rita Road asking
for 26 units/acre and that they heard testimony from the neighbors
against the proposal. He indicated statements were made that
they purchased homes, and realizing they had small backyards
they weren't concerned because there was a large empty piece
of property behind them with trees, they didn~t want the trees
cut down because they served as an airconditioner for the homes.
He said he frankly doesn't believe the neighbors understand the
density. Commissioner Wilson said he would like to see a written
report on densities throughout town.
Commissioner Doherty said the problem he had with the proposal
was lack of communication between developer and neighbors. He
felt that perhaps a compromise might have been reached had
communication taken place. Commissioner Wilson felt the applicant
was totally surprised at the objection of the neighbors.
Commissioner Wilson felt that a major street such as Santa Rita
Road is an ideal place for high density.
Commissioner Jamieson felt the project was just too dense.
