PLANNING CGM["IISSION
5/25/83
Page 5
Mr. Ellis also presented a bound volume with current renderings
of the project as well as of other hotels which are being
built in other parts of the country. The Commission had no
questions of Mr. Ellis.
Mr. Leo Heckathorn, 4202 Stanley Boulevard, spoke in favor of the
project.
There being no .further testimony, the public hearing was closed.
Commissioner Doherty indicated he had been concerned about the
traffic, but with the additional information presented, he was
more comfortable with the situation.
Commissioner Lindsey also indicated he had no problem with
traffic alleviation, but felt that he would like something in
the area with more convention facilities and rooms for community
use and he was not satisfied with the plan.
Chairman Jamieson asked about the Transportation System Manage-
ment (TSM) program. Mr. Harris said the city is suggesting that
Council look into establishing an ordinance which would require
all uses in the area to come up with a plan, even those already
approved. The Farmers project had a condition imposed on them
requiring a TSM plan.
Commissioner Wilson asked if the hotel or an office complex would
create more traffic. Mr. Harris indicated an office complex of
the same size would create considerably more traffic and felt
this was an good use for the site.
Chairman Jamieson indicated that at the last meeting Commissioner
Wilson had brought up the plan of having the adjoining First
Nationwide site paved for parking until they were prepared to
build their facility.
The public hearing was reopened to allow testimony on this.
Mr. Ellis asked Mr. Anderson of First Nationwide to address
this question.
Jack Anderson, First Nationwide Savings, Daly City, indicated
they are now developing plans and studies to coincide with the
completion of the hotel and believed they would be ready for
occupancy shortly thereafter.
The Commissioners discussed the possibility of imposing a condition
that the savings and loan building be constructed at the same time
as the hotel. There was also a question as to the sewer capacity.
