MINUTES
PLANNING COMMISSION
July 27, 1983
Page 10
Commissioner Doherty asked if it is the Sheraton's ir_tention to operate
the restaurant themselves or have others. do it. The applicant responded
that they will probably not be running the restaurant themselves.
Charles Hair, Landscape Architect, spoke explaining their plans. He
addressed screening of the P.S.E., the interior courtyard, screening of
parked cars and pedestrian entrances. He said they are creating a gateway
from the parking lot to the interior courtyard. He elaborated on their
proposal.
Roger Gage, talked about the restaurant facility stating it would be a
lease-type situation and that the Sheraton would not be operating it.
He said the leasing company would also provide room service.
Jack Hovingh, 4250 Muirwood Drive, spoke on behalf of this project and
suggested that the City approve it.
Alletta D'A. Belin, Shute, Mihaly and Weinberger, representing the
Citizens for Balanced Growth, stated that they feel approving this project
is contrary to the court injunction and that CEQA has not been fully
complied with. She submitted a letter dated July 27, 1983 from her office
to which there was attached a letter dated June 27, 1983 from Citizens for
Balanced Growth, stating their concerns. She presented this to the Clerk
for record purposes.
Jim Musbach, Gruen and Gruen, stated they have analyzed the impacts of
other proposals both approved and proposed, concerning employees/housing
in Pleasanton. He stated that the housing stock at full buildout would
be in excess of the workers employed in Pleasanton.
Dennis Salmon, Brobeck, Phleger and Harrison, representing Prudential
Insurance Company, referred to the letter presented by Ms. Belin. He
said it is true that Judge Marsh set aside Ordinance No. 1040 approving
the PUD but that the property reverted to its original zoning of 19 years.
He said the Judge directly answered the question of the City Attorney
about development on the straight industrial zoning and it can proceed.
Commissioner Wilson said that if the Citizens for Balanced Growth are
correct in their interpretation that they could most certainly get an
injunction.
The public hearing was closed.
Commissioner Doherty indicated he is pleased with the quality landscaping
of the project and that this project will give us two quality hotels in
town. He stated it is his experience that generally the Sheraton conducts
a pretty good operation and he is happy to see it come to the area.
~10-
. _. T.. _. __ _
