Minutes
Planning Commisiion
9/28/83
Page 3
She stated other people have to have lighting, signs and parking
and felt the school district should also provide these same
things. She felt they are obviously charging rent for the
use of their site. Mr. Harris stated that actually very little
of the site is being leased out. Mr. Harris further stated
that these types of conditions can be placed on by the Planning
Commission if they so desire.
Chairman Jamieson spoke on the ground maintenance. He stated
the City is very strong in requirements for other applicants
and this site should be an outstanding example. Mr. Harris
stated that this application is for a temporary use permit
for five years and putting pole lights in could be a very expensive
situation. Commissioner Getty felt that spot lights could
be put on the buildings.
The public hearing was opened.
Mike Ananos, in charge of buildings and grounds for the School
District addressed the Planning Commission. He stated they
are leasing buildings out to help keep them from deteriorating.
He indicated that the leases are geared so that on June 30
of any given year the tenants can be asked to leave. Concerning
signs they would only want to have a minimal signing program
to indicate locations. He stated lights are turned out for
energy saving and for night usage they can be turned on. He
stated that any group using the buildings can request the
lights be put on. Mr. Ananos stated vandalism has been reduced
dramatically since the lights have been turned out at the
school. Commissioner Lindsey inquired about the overall maintenance
of the school district. Mr. Ananos stated that all of the
buildings were painted within the last two years and there
are no plans to change the color. He stated there is one grounds
man for all seven schools. He indicated that mowing gets done
but that is about it, along with some sprinkler repair. Citizen
groups have worked on the shrubs, etc. He stated he can present
the views and opinions of the Planning Commission to the School
Board and Administration and get back to the Planning Commission
with an answer.
Commissioner Arrigoni asked if citizen groups have worked on
the sprinklers at various schools. Mr. Ananos said they have
and the district has no objections to this as long as parts
used, etc. meet with the School District approval. Commissioner
Lindsey then asked if it would be appropriate to continue this
matter until such time as the School District has had an opportunity
to review the concerns of the Planning Commission. Mr. Ananos
stated that there are at least 32 parking spaces in the front
and they will be designing another 15 just inside the fence
area for special services. He further stated that the School
District vehicles will be parked inside the slat fence.
The public hearing was closed.
-3-
__...._~ _,..~.. __ _ ..,. _ .. _..»..__ _ .. __ _ .. .. _ . _..T.. _ .
