Minutes
Planning Commissioi
12/12/84
Chairman Doherty asked that all persons who wished to speak in
favor of the project please step up to the microphone.
Commissioner Getty stated that the petition which was submitted
by the applicant had 100 signatures, however, the people are not
from Vintage Hills.
Audrey DeRotiff, Norton Way, lives directly behind the Vintage
Hills Shopping Center and is the President of Vineyard Villa
Homeowners Association felt the shopping center needed more
traffic and was in favor of the cocktail lounge.
Dave Elkins, 3839-C Vineyard Avenue represented Shadow Creek.
Their group would enjoy the convenience of a close and decent
cocktail lounge. He has known the applicants and manager for
quite a while and knows the quality of the establishment they
would be operating. Commissioner Innes asked Mr. Elkins how many
homeowners he represented. Mr. Elkins indicated he represented
approximately 48 units. Commissioner Innes asked if Mr. Elkins
has talked to all of the residents. Mr. Elkins stated he has
talked to most of them. Two were against the proposal.
Chairman Doherty announced that all persons opposed to the
proposed use would be heard next.
Eric Swenson, Vintage Terrace Homeowners, stated that the area is
a young neighborhood and has many children ranging from tots to
teenagers. He felt that with children on skate boards and
bicycles and persons coming out of a cocktail lounge do not mix
and urged denial of the application.
Susan Glanville, 3069 Chardonnay, felt the use was inappropriate
because of its close proximity to an ice cream parlour and park
coming in right across the street.
Brian Hoyt, 546 Touriga Court, indicated the current persons
would probably operate the bar as stated but there is no
guarantee they will remain the owners. He sited cocktail lounges
in town which were very old and had many-many owners. He felt
the Vintage Hills area is a family oriented community and no
place for a cocktail lounge.
Chuck Muth, 3644 Vine, opposed a cocktail lounge in the shopping
center because of the proposed park across the street.
Terry O'Buel, Crellin Road, stated there is a problem in the area
now trying to retain the 25mph speed zone and poor response by
the Police Department, and didn't wish to see the situation
worsened by approval of a cocktail lounge
Howard Mendenhall, Vintner Way, asked why anyone would want to
introduce a use to the area which would require crow control. He
didn't feel the shopping center was an appropriate place for a
cocktail lounge.
- 3 -
