City council is also considering a $5,000 penalty for every
tree destroyed or damaged in the opinion of the Director
of Public Works and Utilities. Council is attempting to
tighten up the Heritage Trees.
Chairman Doherty expressed a lot of concern with lack of
on-site supeevision during construction. He wants to see
a California Licensed Landscape Architect on the site
at all times during construction.
Commissioner Wilson expressed concern with a professional
being an the site and a tree dying anyway. Chairman Doherty
alluded'' to that and said he is very sensitive to trees and
perhaps there may be some litigation if a tree dies. He
felt strongly that even with a penalty being levied without
the right kind of supervision there can still be a problem.
Commissioner Innes then asked the Assistant City Attorney
about the penalties being assessed. Mr Swift explained
stating that currently there is no penalty at all assessed.
Commissioner Innes asked about the status of the railroad
consolidation. Mr. Warnick indicated that this has been
approved by the City Council.
NEW BUSINESS - Public Hearings
-6-
