Alameda County Transportation Improvement Authority
Special Transportation for Seniors and People with llisabilities
• Updated the missed service policy to increase flexibility for PPS users
regarding cancellations.
• Increased coordination with LAV'fA to provide more travel training
opportunities.
• Introduced AARP 55 Alive Driving Class at the Pleasanton Senior Center to
provide an alternative driving educational opportunity.
• Continued to work with the local Senior Housing facilities to improve
coordination of PPS trips.
For FY 2007-08, the following needs have been identified:
• Pilot the new PPS Fixed Route Schedule (FRS) to provide another economical
transit alternative to those clients with minimal mobility limitations. This
service should also provide an alternative to same day service, which is of
high interest to PPS clients.
• Implement new driver training and recruitment program to provide regular
driver safety courses and assure the development of a qualified pool of Class
B licensed drivers.
• Continue to assist LAVTA staff in implementing pilot Valley-wide taxi
program.
Unmet needs
Region-wide paratransit services continue to be a growing need, as hospitals and medical
providers consolidate and require clients to travel longer distances.
As PPS clients continue to age in place, and with 29.2% of the client over 85 years of age,
there is increasing need for volunteer escort services. Not all clients have family or friends to
assist them to appointments, and a volunteer based escort service would be very useful.
Projected new riders
During the first half of FY 2006-07, 75 new riders used PPS. It is estimated that 150 new
riders will register for the service in FY 2007-08.
Describe how services will be coordinated with other Measure B paratransit services and/or
mandated ADA paratransit services so that trips can be made throughout Alameda County.
Examples of coordination may include (but are not limited to) reciprocal fare agreements,
reciprocal agreements to provide trips into adjoining areas, arrangements for clients to ride
on other systems, and transfer arrangements. Attach copies of agreements or memoranda of
understanding For coordination.
Response•
X:\paratransit\Mnual Program Application Cover FY0708 March 27, 200Zdoc
Page 12 of 20
