Minutes
Planning Commissio.
September 11, 1985
Further ordinances are modified all of the time to accommodate
change.
Chairman Wilson asked if the 14' dish used four or five years ago
is similar to the 10' dish used today. Mr. Kane reviewed the
geometrics of antennae and said size had very little to do with
it. Commissioner Innes asked Mr. Kane to speak in layman's terms
and stated in fact with new technology the size has been reduced.
Mr. Swift indicated staff has no objections to changing the
definition if inappropriate. Commissioner Innes stated that this
ordinance is not meant to cover microwave towers. It is meant to
cover satellite earth station and receptors, telecommunications
and transmission of signals.
Mr. Kane stated he found out about this ordinance from Jim
Walker.
Commissioner Michelotti discussed Item b(3) requiring a written
statement explaining exact need of the satellite earth station
and asked if it could be required. Commissioner Innes stated
that the purpose of this is to require where possible centralized
service. In five years there could really be a problem if this
is not used in considering applications.
A motion was made by Commissioner Innes seconded by Commissioner
Lindsey, that Case RZ-85-14 be recommended for approval as
recommended in the staff report, modifying the recommendations
to include that definition of satellite earth station be made,
revising Item 6 of the Residential portion of the ordinance such
that screening is required for satellite earth stations that are
visible to the adjacent properties or public roadways. They
further asked for clarification of b)2 which clearly requires
that dishes shall be first located on the roof and not be seen,
or on the roof and screened and the last alternative would be
next to the building; 4(b) is to be changed so that the last word
in the item is roadway and not thoroughfares.
ROLL CALL VOTE
AYES: Commissioners Hoyt,
Chairman Wilson
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
ABSTAIN: None
Inner, Lindsey, Michelotti and
Resolution No. 2703 was entered and adopted recommending approval
of Case RZ-85-14 as motioned.
RZ-85-15, City of Pleasanton
Application of the City of Pleasanton to amend the Ordinance Cade
to create an overlay district to establish design review
procedures and design standards for the Central Business District
in that area generally bounded by Bernal Avenue, First Street,
Stanley Boulevard, the railroad tracks of the Union Pacific
- 11 -
._ _., T ..
