Minutes <br />Planning Commissio <br />5/8/85 <br />the north of the building.The staff report doesn't describe this <br />plan exactly as it discusses more parking places than shown on <br />the new plan. Commissioner Innes asked staff about the latest <br />plan and what is currently planned for the north side of the <br />property. Mr. Harris stated that Caltrans has a 6 ft. high <br />chainlenk fence and further that Caltrns might not allow the <br />applicant to landscape the 10 ft. section on the Caltrans <br />property. <br />Commissioner Innes asked for an explanation of Condition No. 3. <br />Mr. Harris explained that it provides for 15' widening of I-580 <br />on property on the south side to accommodate BART if BART is put <br />in the median at this location. Chairman Wilson stated that <br />landscaping is quite expensive and had concerns about reserving a <br />large amount of property for future use. Mr. Harris explained <br />that it was never intended that buildings should be put in this <br />northern area. <br />Commissioner Wellman asked about the signing. Mr. Harris <br />indicated that signing is not being considered as part of this <br />application. <br />The public hearing was opened. <br />Martin Inderbitzen, 62 West Neal Street, welcomed and <br />congratulated Brian Hoyt and Sharrell Michelotti on their recent <br />appointments to the Planning Commission. Regarding the project <br />he indicated that Mr. Bingham and Logue are present and can <br />address the design of the project. They are very sensitive to <br />the orientation of the project and have designed the front of the <br />project to face I-580. He presented a rendering of the <br />elevations and site. He stated that the final landscape plan <br />will be submitted to staff for approval. <br />Commissioner Lindsey asked Mr. Inderbitzen about the parking. <br />Mr. Inderbitzen explained that there were 166 on the original <br />plan and 140 on this one. Commissioner Lindsey asked if the <br />spaces on the north side are primarily for inventory of vehicles. <br />Mr. Inderbitzen indicated that they are with the east side being <br />used for employees. <br />Commissioner Wilson cautioned the applicants against installing <br />auto racks without prior City approval. <br />Hollis Logue, 1213 Lincoln Avenue, San Jose, presented his <br />credentials and the BMW project. Commissioner Innes asked Mr. <br />Logue about the massiveness of the building. Mr. Logue stated <br />that color will be provided through automobiles on site. <br />Chairman Wilson had no objection to the white color of the <br />proposed structure. Commissioner Hoyt liked the stripe around <br />the bottom of the building and felt Commissioner Innes' <br />suggestion to possibly add another stripe would spoil the effect. <br />The public hearing was closed. <br />- 4 - <br />,._. <br />
