Minutes
Planning Commission
June 24, 1987
Mr. Smith then reviewed the history of the property and proposal
of two years ago. The project has been changed to accommodate
new needs of the area. It is now proposed to be a suite hotel
which will enable a business person to have a meeting room,
adjacent to a hotel room for living purposes. Mr. Smith
distributed a copy of Business Times, April 13, 1987, which has
an article entitled "No room at inn for meetings." The hotels in
Pleasanton did not anticipate the need for meeting rooms because
it was anticipated that the industries being built would
accommodate this use. This in fact has not been the case.
Len McVicar, Pacific urban Design, 255 Market Street, San Jose,
made a presentation of the entire project, pointing out the
extensive landscaping treatment that frames the hotel. The hotel
will be an upper-end suite hotel, conference center, and state of
the art. This suite hotel would be the first in the region.
Jack Hovingh, Muirwood Drive, stated he as no feeling one way or
the other about the project. Concerning Condition No. 5 he would like to ask that
construction be held until completion of the Stoneridge
interchange. He also asked that the haul route for construction
be Palomares to Eden Canyon, over Old Dublin Road to reduce
congestion at Dublin Boulevard/Foothill Road. Mr. Hovingh also
asked for sufficient setback so that there will not be a large,
tall building right at Dublin Canyon Road.
Rebuttal
Jack Smith stated he appreciated
the long period of time on
recommended are agreed by them.
The public hearing was closed.
the work staff has put in over
this project. All conditions
A motion was made by Commissioner Michelotti, seconded by
Commissioner Mahern to recommend approval of the negative
declaration prepared for Case PUD-87-2 as approval of this
project would have an insignificant effect on the environment.
ROLL CALL VOTE
AYES: Commissioners Mahern and Michelotti
NOES: Commissioner Tarver and Chairman Lindsey
ABSENT: Commissioners Berger and Hoyt
ABSTAIN: None
Chairman Lindsey said he was concerned with traffic and didn't
feel another hotel was particularly desirable in this location.
Another use might be better.
Commissioner Tarver stated if the Stoneridge interchange is
built, the CIty may need more hotels. The design is definitely
nice and has features lacking in other hotels, but it just
- 16 -
r _
