Minutes Planning Commission Wednesday, April 22, 1987 Commissioner Michelotti asked if such a review is the type of thing which is done on a contracted basis. Mr. Swift reported that in the past when the City Council wasn't satisfied with traffic studies, the City would contract out to a second traffic engineer. The new traffic assumptions should minimize this requirement. It is Mr. Swift's understanding that Mr. Elliott the Director of Public Works and Utilities wants to hire a traffic engineer as the Engineering Department's traffic personnel is very busy doing a multitude of other functions. It wasn't intended, however, that the proposed staff member would evaluate traffic reports for projects under consideration by the City. Commissioner Michelotti discussed hiring a traffic engineer and asked how the person would be funded. Chairman Lindsey didn't feel funding to be a Planning Commission concern, but that it was very important that the Planning Commission pass on to staff its recommendations for consideration. A motion was made by Commissioner Tarver, seconded by Commissioner Hoyt to recommend that City Council consider hiring a traffic engineer. ROLL CALL VOTE AYES: Commissioners Berger, Hoyt, Michelotti, Tarver, and Chairman Lindsey NOE5: None ABSENT: None ABSTAIN: None Resolution No. PC-87-42 was entered and adopted recommending that City Council consider hiring a traffic engineer, who in part will, review and make recommendations on traffic studies done for projects under City consideration. Chairman Lindsey - Asked that a future Planning Commission/City staff joint meeting be held to review any items the members might like to discuss. Chairman Lindsey asked that the Commissioners submit a list to Shirley of any ideas or concerns they might have which could be discussed in a work session. This meeting is important because of all of the recent changes to the Planning Commission and staff members. Chairman Lindsey suggested that such a meeting be scheduled, .perhaps, 6:30pm on the day of a regular Planning Commission meeting or even for one-half a day at a different time and place. Commissioner Michelotti - Asked staff about the proposed joint Planning Commission/City Council work session. Mr. Swift stated that this meeting is scheduled for Monday, May 4, 1987, 7:30pm. Discussion will include the Growth Management Program. The Trammell Crow and Northern Group applications were held by Council pending the results of the joint meeting. Mr. Swift stated that he had distributed copies of the staff reports which went to City Council concerning this matter. Should the Commissioners need any additional information prior to the May 4, 1987 meeting, they need only to call the Planning staff. - 3 -
