Minutes
Planning Commission
April 8, 1987
projects for Pleasanton to assure that the supply will meet the
demand.
REVISIONS AND OMISSIONS TO THE MINUTES
Mr. Swift asked that PUD-87-2, Harbor View Investment, Inc., and
PUD-87-5, Stoneson be continued to April 22, 1987. The Planning
Commission unanimously agreed to these continuances.
MATTERS INITIATED BY COMMISSION MEMBERS
Commissioner Berger:
A-frame sign
Mission Plaza Shopping Center, at Santa Rita Road (Swenson's Ice
Cream) has a very unattractive a-frame sign facing Santa Rita
Road. Commissioner Berger asked staff to check into this.
Mr. Swift said staff will check into this situation and have
staff ask that the sign be removed.
Commissioner Michelotti:
Growth Management Polices
Concern was expressed regarding growth management policies. The
General Plan Residential Committee recommended 250-260 units per
year be approved and this recommendation was adopted by Council
based on the City's ability to provide infrastructure and City
services. Exemptions do not count in the total number of units
being approved each year. It is difficult for her to consider
upcoming projects when the recently approved and units under
consideration at the current time equal 1500 units. If the
purpose of affordable housing is to consider projects as quickly
as possible, then it becomes more and more difficult for her to
consider projects when their number is not taken into
consideration.
Chairman Lindsey asked Commissioner Michelotti if it is her
intent to clarify exemptions under the General Plan by first
having a joint session of the Planning Commission and City
Council. Commissioner Michelotti said that is her intent. If
supported by the other Commissioners, she would recommend that a
joint session between the Planning Commission, City Council and
staff be held prior to any final action being taken on current
projects which are are seeking Growth Management exemption. This
does not mean this would put a delay on any project to be heard
tonight. It is her feeling that the projects under consideration
should go forward as under the current General Plan.
Commissioner Michelotti would like Planning Commission to make a
recommendation to the City Council.
Chairman Lindsey - clarified that Commissioner Michelotti is
asking the Commission to support City Council reconsideration of
the Growth Management Program exemption program under the General
Plan in a joint session of the Planning Commission, staff and
City Council. Commissioner Hoyt commented that low income
- 2 -
